Once again Nether Stowe report a very successful set of results for their sixth form students with everyone achieving passes at A level or vocational qualification. Every student who wishes to go to university has gained a place. Ruth Poppleton Head Teacher said "I am really pleased with these results, which in many subjects are up on last year, despite changes to the qualifications designed to make them harder. I am really pleased for the students, who worked so hard to achieve these results. We are very proud of them and wish them every success for the future . There were some fantastic individual achievements with Tara Best gaining 3 A grades in Chemistry, Geography and Maths, Natalie Bialasinska gaining an A in Polish , Distinction* in Health and Social care and high grades in Psychology and Economics. Other high achieving students at A level were Rebecca Hutchings, Matthew Lovell and Leika Nell.
Nether Stowe tries to ensure that students are placed on appropriate courses post 16 and values vocational qualification, which count as A Level equivalents. Every one of their pupils who studied Btec Business Studies and Health and Social Care achieved a distinction* and a number of students came away with this top grade in both subjects including; Georga Steerment, Eleanor Wickham, Emily Allen, Katie Bayliss, Jodie Marie Butler, Georgia Dixon and Nathan Harding.
Sian Smith Head of Sixth Form said "they were a great year group, always willing to get involved in school activities and a great support to each other. I know they were really grateful for the care and support of all their teachers. Most of the students are now going on to university or high quality apprenticeships that will lead to long lasting careers"
Tara Best who is now going to Manchester to read Chemistry was overjoyed with her results, achieving 3 A grades said “I am very pleased with these results. My hard work has paid off. I’ve done hours and hours of revision and worked hard all year and it has paid off”. Natalie Bialasinka said “these results reflect my determination and hard work and the fantastic support of my teachers”.
Emily Allen who took a year out after her GCSEs to go to college was delighted with her results saying “I’m so happy I returned to Nether Stowe to complete my A levels. A big thank you to all my teachers who guided and supported me throughout my time at the school.”
Nether Stowe is also celebrating the achievement of Sophie Capewell, a year 12 student who is on the British Cycling training programme. This frequently takes her around the world competing at an international level. In addition to winning 2 bronze medals in the European Championships in the sprint and time trial, she is also a triple national champion in sprint, Keirin and the 500m time trial. Sophie gained 4 A grades at AS. After the success of the cycling team in Rio, Sophie is hopeful of a place in the team in the future. Sophie commented “I am exceedingly happy. I really didn’t think this would happen as it is really tricky to manage work and training. I have to be super organised. The staff at Nether Stowe have been a massive help. I couldn’t do this without the understanding of the teachers and their help and support”. Mr Capewell added, “Nether Stowe School have always treated Sophie as an individual and been very flexible to allow her to manage intensive training and school work”.
Both the timetable and route are revised on Service 829 which runs between Rugeley, Springhills Road, Rugeley, Rugeley Bus Station, Brereton, Armitage, Handsacre, Hanch, Friary and Nether Stowe School – on school days will terminate at Nether Stowe.
