A group of Year 10 students enjoyed an ‘eye-opening’ and enthralling visit to the JCB
Headquarters in Rocester on Tuesday.
Students met with a variety of JCB workers including engineers, sales representatives, analysts, customer service advisors and many more. They had a ‘whistle-stop’ tour of the factory where they saw the Backhoe loaders being made from start to finish. The students only regret was there wasn't time to see everything! However, the students left knowing more about future careers not only in engineering but also pathways into other careers; how they can get into and explore each avenue for their future.
Inspired by the poppies last year at the Tower of London, Nether Stowe students have been preparing for their annual whole school Act of Remembrance by each making their own poppy. Encouraged by their tutors, students have been thinking about people who have lost their lives serving their country and have written messages on the poppy leaf in remembrance of those who have fought and continue to fight, in countries in conflict around the world; as well as remembering their own family or friendship groups, who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Every poppy has been put upon a cascading display on the stage in the school hall, where on Friday the whole school will gather for their annual Act of Remembrance.
A number of GCSE pupils visited the Brecon Beacons last weekend, where they engaged in a number of climbing activities which will count towards their final GCSE grade. Activities included a climbing wall, high ropes, bouldering and over hangs. Despite the freezing cold conditions at night, the weather was great as was the attitude and effort of the pupils and they did the school and themselves proud.
